Official correspondence of the Catholic Church relating to its political history, internal church matters, theological controversies and censorship. They date roughly from the last quarter of the 16th to the first quarter of the 17th century. There are also references to important earlier events such as the Council of Trent, 1545-1563. There are references dealing with the Eastern Orthodox Church and to the efforts by the Pope Gregory XIII and his successors to heal the schism with that church. Perhaps the most important material deals with censorship. The last eleven documents are by Federigo Mezio, 1551-1602 (also called Metius) who presented detailed and scholarly reports on books considered questionable.
